Dr. Heejin An's impressive musical journey is marked by notable accomplishments, demonstrating her dedication to the art of piano performance and her commitment to excellence. Her achievements span international competitions and renowned concert venues, reflecting her passion and talent as a pianist.
Dr. An's musical journey began at the age of 10 when she won the prestigious Kumho Young Artist Auditions in Seoul, an achievement that paved the way for her career. Throughout her career, she has consistently demonstrated her exceptional skill and artistry, earning recognition as a finalist at the New York International Competition and receiving top honors in competitions such as the Korea Times Competition, Eum-Yeon Competition, Music Journal Competition, and Chopin Piano Competition in Korea.
As a distinguished soloist and chamber musician, Dr. An has graced renowned venues around the world, including Carnegie Weill Hall, Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York, PianoForte in Chicago, Kumho Arts Center in Seoul, and the Grand Concert Hall in Hanoi. Notably, she was invited to perform at the American Liszt Society Festival in 2017 in Chicago, and in 2019, she had the honor of performing Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto with the Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of conductor Tran Vuong Thach at the Grand Concert Hall of the Vietnam National Academy of Music.
Dr. An's commitment to contemporary music is exemplified by her role as a pianist in the contemporary music ensemble, Ensemble Blank, from 2017 to 2021. With her colleagues, she promoted modern compositions and performed at esteemed venues, including Kumho Art Hall and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary in Korea. Her passion for modern music also led her to collaborate with composers from the Asia/America New Music Institute, culminating in a recent performance at Texas A&M University.
Having embarked on her musical journey in the United States, Dr. An pursued her education at the renowned Juilliard Pre-College, studying under the guidance of Julian Martin. She further honed her skills at the Juilliard School, where she earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree in piano performance while studying with esteemed professors, including Julian Martin, Matti Raekallio, and Hung-Kuan Chen. In 2022, Dr. An achieved the pinnacle of her academic pursuits, graduating with a doctorate in piano performance from the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, under the mentorship of James Giles.
Currently based in the Chicago area, Dr. An serves as a freelance pianist, lending her expertise and artistry to a variety of musical endeavors. She also holds the role of collaborative pianist at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University and the DePaul University School of Music.
